mapping Nottingham's identity

HERITAGE IN NOTTINGHAM

PROJECT INTRODUCTION

Several workshops took place in which people were asked to draw a map of Nottingham, as well as being asked four questions. These questions were:

- What does 'Intangible Heritage' mean to you?

- Where is your favourite place in Nottingham?

- If you were to send a postcard from Nottingham, what would it look like?

- If Nottingham had a Monopoly game, what would you like to see on the board? What value would you assign to your choice?

My main role has been to interpret these results and put together a physical representation of the responses as well as an online catalogue.

INTRODUCTION

The nature of the project is very hand-made, nothing on the map is to scale or even located in the correct location. To physically represent the responses, I decided to overlay layers of tracing paper to give a visual impact as all of the layers are visible, although many responses are clouded by the paper. Viewers would then have to interact with the information board by lifting the sheets of tracing paper and search through to see all of the responses clearly.
